What Is BMS?
Battery management system(BMS), as the name suggests, is mainly an integrated circuit board that provides protection for rechargeable (usually referred to as lithium batteries). The reason why lithium batteries (rechargeable) need protection is determined by their own characteristics. Due to the material of the lithium battery itself, it cannot be overcharged, discharged, overcurrent, short circuited, or charged or discharged at ultra-high temperatures. Therefore, the lithium battery components always appear with a protective plate with a sampling resistor and a current protector.
Why We Need a Battery Protection Board?
The reason why lithium batteries (rechargeable) need protection is determined by their own characteristics. Due to the material of the lithium battery itself, it cannot be overcharged, discharged, overcurrent, short circuited, or charged or discharged at ultra-high temperatures. Therefore, the lithium battery components always appear with a delicate protective board and a current protector.
The protection function of lithium batteries is usually completed by the collaboration of protection circuit boards and PTC and other current devices. The protection board is composed of electronic circuits, which accurately monitor the voltage of the battery cell and the current of the charging and discharging circuit at all times in an environment of -40 ℃ to+85 ℃, and timely control the on-off of the current circuit; PTC prevents severe damage to the battery in high-temperature environments.
The protection board usually includes control ICs, MOS switches, and auxiliary devices such as NTC, ID, memory, etc. Among them, the control IC controls the conduction of the MOS switch under all normal conditions, allowing the cell to communicate with the external circuit. When the cell voltage or circuit current exceeds the specified value, it immediately controls the MOS switch to turn off, protecting the safety of the cell.

How to Choose a Suitable BMS?
How many strings does your battery pack consist of？
What is the continuous current you need, or what is your peak current demand?
What functions do you need for BMS? For example, whether it comes with NTC, whether it comes with heating function, whether it is possible to adjust parameters using a mobile phone/computer, whether it comes with LED, and so on.
What scenario will your battery pack be used for? For example, electric bicycle bms, electric scooter bms, energy storage bms, agv bms, and so on.

Jiabaida BMS currently has two main types: hardware bms and software(smart) bms, both supporting lifepo4 and li-ion battery packs. BMS supports strings from 3 to 32, with a continuous current of 5A to 300A.
For the function of the protection board, there are models with balancing function on the hardware board, as well as specialized unbalanced models. Smart boards all support balance function, and they support Bluetooth connection between mobile phones and UART, 485, CAN and other interfaces to connect to computers, enabling both mobile phones and computers to view battery information in real-time, modify BMS parameters, and more.
Temperature is a very sensitive thing for batteries, so both hardware and software battery protection boards of Jiabaida BMS come with models that support NTC. For areas with lower temperatures, Jiabaida also supports heating function.
In 2023, our company also launched an intelligent BMS with GPS+4G function for battery swapping, which can view battery information and location in real-time.

In terms of consumer electronics products, lithium battery protection boards are widely used in devices such as mobile phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, cameras, MP3, MP4, PDAs, and game consoles.
In terms of electric tools, lithium battery protection plates can protect the batteries in various electric tools such as drills, hammers, saws, and scissors, ensuring their safe and stable operation. The most common one is that the battery capacity is small, but the discharge starting current is large, and the starting delay time is long (several hundred milliseconds). Therefore, electric tools generally require a lower sleep power consumption of the protection board and a lower power consumption after undervoltage. On the other hand, either the discharge overcurrent protection value of the protection board is greater than the starting current, or the overcurrent protection delay time of the protection board is greater than the starting delay time, otherwise it will affect the normal startup of the tool.
